Being a freelancing mum definitely comes with its challenges...
One of the hardest things for me is balancing work and family time. Between being creative, client deadlines, marketing, packing my Lion & The Pear orders, and looking after my little one, it can be tricky to find uninterrupted time to truly focus—even on my designated desk days. The washing pile never seems to stop, and some days, it feels like my brain is conflicted about what I need to get done first.
Then there’s the unpredictability—whether it’s a last-minute client request or my son getting sick, my whole day can get thrown off (which is exactly what happened today!). Flexibility is a must!
Lastly, setting boundaries is tough. It’s easy for work and family time to blur together, and I sometimes find myself working too much or feeling guilty for not spending enough time with my family.
Finding that balance between family life and work is always a challenge.Last week, I realised that even though there were a million things I could have done in the evenings, I really needed a few hours to switch off. And guess what?! No clients got upset, the world didn’t implode, and I felt a little more well-rested the next day—ready to tackle both mumming and work. Most of my clients are parents too, so they understand when life gets overwhelming! Here’s your gentle reminder to stop, put your feet up, and have a cuppa just for you this evening!
